Understanding and optimising light bounce

Light bounce is the red colour you can see reflected on the can from the environment. Without appropriate light bounce objects can look out of place in a scene.

How we automate light bounce

Our files automate light bounce when possible by linking the environment colour to a bounce layer.

This layer filters the colour with a mask and utilises transfer modes to ensure the environment colour is reflected in the object.

Optimising your scene for dark environments

Although our files are designed to be as versatile as possible, occasionally you will need to adjust the file so the bounce works effectively with darker backgrounds.

You can do this by making a copy of the bounce layer and changing the transfer mode to Hard Light.

Experiment with other transfer modes to get the optimal intensity for your scene.
